Bet of the day
France vs Poland
France will be relieved to play Poland in this game rather than Argentina. Poland will wait and attempt to attack France from behind. They might succeed in scoring, but France has too much talent up front and ought to win with over 2.5 goals coming on board.
Match Facts
- At this tournament, Poland has averaged fewer than two shots on goal per game.
- France has won each World Cup match they have played in the round of 16 thus far.
- In its 4 previous encounters with Belgium and the Netherlands this year, Poland allowed 11 goals.
- Mbappe has two goals in the previous 16 games of 2018 and three goals through three games overall.
Match Preview
Poland are expected to struggle in this match. The way Poland advanced to the World Cup’s round of 16 attracted little support from the neutrals because they were uncoordinated in their 2-0 loss to Argentina but are aware that they would advance due to their decent record.
They haven’t exactly been a compelling side to watch during the tournament, though. In their three World Cup games, Poland has only had five shots on goal, 60% of which came in their 2-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
Do Poland have any chance of defeating France in this Round of 16 encounter with the way they played against Argentina?
History favours France to reach the quarter final stage
At the previous European Championships, France might have been eliminated at this round, but it is unlikely to occur this time. After France became the first champion to reach the knockout stages since Brazil in 2006, history does indicate that the winners will advance to the quarterfinals.
France has made five appearances at this stage and advanced on each occasion since the Round of 16 was established in the 1986 World Cup (1986, 1998, 2006, 2014, 2018). In four out of the last five major tournaments they have participated in, the French have at least reached the final eight.
Poland will play in this match for the first time in the World Cup tournament’s knockout stages since 1986, when they fell to Brazil 4-0 in the round of 16. Another quick knockout for Poland is predicted based on their defensive track record and the attacking alternatives available to the French.
Mbappe looks unstoppable
In the 2022 World Cup, Kylian Mbappe has taken nine more shots (16), five more of which have been on target (7). After three games and three goals in Qatar, he is currently the favorite to win the golden boot. Mbappe (7), who scored twice in the Round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup against Argentina, is the only Frenchman with less goals than Fontaine (13) (13 total goals).
France should overrun a Poland team that could barely contain an underwhelming Argentina since they have excellent options outside of Mbappe as well. When they were up 2-0, Lionel Messi and company relaxed, but France demonstrated their unwillingness to do so by defeating Australia 4-1 and Denmark 2-1.
The Danes put in a solid defensive display to keep the scoreline down in that one, but they couldn’t stop the French. Poland don’t look capable of doing the same, having conceded 11 times to the Netherlands and Belgium in the Nations League earlier this year. The French should run riot in this clash and Poland’s blunt attack will have little answer. However, because France usually concede goals as much as they score. I will back them to win and over 2.5 goals to come on board.
